A Call To Action
For the Harbor Commission
Because Local Representation Matters
In less than twelve months, residents and workers of the Harbor Area were stripped of their representation on the Port of LA Harbor Commission virtually reigniting the Hundred Years War by the Mayor. We as a community refuse to go back...we will NOT go back. We need representation! Local Representation! With the stroke of a pen, our Mayor can remedy this. Below you can read the letter. This call to action is for all who believe that government is for the people by the people. Send the letter now and ask the Mayor to right his wrong. If the Mayor refuses our request MEASURE HH will appear on the November Ballot to codify that there will always be a residential seat for San Pedro and Wilmington on the Harbor Commission! WE WILL NOT GO BACK!

Understanding Measure HH
Read the Letter
Dear Mayor Bass,
I am writing to you regarding the composition of the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners because over the last two years there has been a marked decline in local voices on this very important Board.
In 2022, one seat represented Wilmington, one seat labor and one San Pedro. Today, only one San Pedro representative remains. This must be remedied as soon as possible. The Harbor Commission plays a crucial role in shaping policies and decisions that impact our ports, local communities, workforce, and greatly influences our nation’s supply chain.
While the port serves as an important economic engine, our local communities often bear the brunt of unintended consequences associated with port activities. In order to ensure that all perspectives are heard and that the Board’s decisions reflect the needs of OUR communities, please consider reshaping the Board composition.
Specifically, I am requesting the following adjustments:
1. One Wilmington Representative: Wilmington is an important community next to the Port of Los Angeles that is directly influenced by the Harbor Commissions’ decisions. Having a dedicated representative from Wilmington will ensure that the interests and concerns of this often ignored, environmental injustice burdened area is addressed.
2. One Labor Representative: The Port of Los Angeles is number one in the Western Hemisphere for a very important reason, our workers. Many hardworking individuals’ livelihoods depend on the Board’s decisions. Including a labor representative will ensure that the interests of workers are considered in the Board’s deliberations.
3. Retention of the San Pedro Representative: Maintaining a representative from San Pedro is essential for ensuring that this local Port community continues to have a voice on the Board.
The composition I have just outlined will enhance the equity, fairness, and effectiveness of the Board of Harbor Commissioners and lead to thoughtful decision-making. I request that you implement these changes to ensure a more balanced representation on the Commission as soon as possible.
Regards,
